Kosovo Police
The Kosovo Police is an institution within the framework of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The role of Kosovo Police is to maintain public law and order and to prevent criminality. The police are organized into regional directorates in seven (7) regions: Pristina, Prizren, Gjakova, Peja, Gjilan, Ferizaj, Mitrovica.
Some of the duties of the Police are:
a) to protect the life, property and offer safety for all people;
b) to protect the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all citizens;
c) to prevent the risk to citizens and maintain the public order and safety;
d) detect and prevent criminal acts and offenders;
e) to investigate criminal acts and offenders;
f) to supervise and control for traffic safety;
g) to manage and control the state border;
h) to provide assistance during natural disasters and other emergencies; and
i) to perform other duties as assigned by applicable law.
