The Kosovo Judicial Council is an independent institution mandated to ensure the independence and impartiality and professionalism of the judicial system, and ensuring that the courts are fair, apolitical and accessible for citizens, respect the principle of non-discrimination, human rights and gender equality guaranteed with the Constitution and legal acts.
The Judicial Council shall propose to the President the appointment, reappointment and dismissal of judges as well as the President of the Supreme Court and of the Court of Appeals.
Other duties and responsibilities of the Kosovo Judicial Council are defined by the Law on Kosovo Judicial Council.
Based on the Constitution, the mandate of the members of the Council is five years (5). The Council according to the Constitution has a total of 13 members: six (6) members are elected by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, while eleven (7) members are directly elected by the judiciary.
